Your Appearance Appearance is important when deciding on lenses or glasses. We all want to look our best regardless. Contact lenses will not hide your face as does glasses. Rather than someone seeing your “glasses” they see “you”.
Glasses need to compliment your outfits which could be a positive or negative. If you love having different pairs of glasses for your wardrobe then choosing frames will be a lot of fun for you. Contact lenses, of course, go with everything.
Weather and the Effects
If you choose to wear glasses you will have to deal with them fogging up and collecting precipitation during rain and snow which may cause blurred vision. Contact lenses will not have this problem.
Maintenance
Both require careful handling and some level of maintenance. Glasses will have to be occasionally tightened and adjusted to keep their great fit. Contact lenses have to be cleaned with solution. How often you clean them depends on the type of lenses you will be wearing. You must also keep up with how long you have been wearing them so you can clean them or switch to a new pair if they are disposable.
Glasses will have to be repaired or replaced if broken due to sitting on them, losing them, or breaking them during a sport or game. With contacts you may have to get a new pair if you lose them which is easy to do with them being so small.
Vision
Contact lenses will definitely be the better choice when it comes to vision. Contacts lay right against the eye which makes your entire field of vision good, including your peripheral vision. Frames block your peripheral vision. Due to the distance of the eye and the lens this sometimes creates a distortion which will cause your vision not to be as crisp. Lenses are consistently clear.
Infections
There is a greater chance of eye infections with the use of contact lenses. This risk can be greatly reduced if the cleaning and handling instructions are followed carefully.
Comfort
Glasses all and all are quite comfortable. The only drawback is that you know you have them on. You tend to forget you have contact lenses in. You may experience some dryness or burning with contact lenses that you would not otherwise get with glasses. Since this could be an issue, select your brand of lenses carefully. There are contact lenses with special technology that helps with these issues.
Sunglasses
Contact lenses allow you to wear sunglasses that you would not otherwise get to wear if you wear glasses. There are so many styles and shapes of sunglasses that can be fun and fashionable to wear.
Astigmatism
Both eye glasses and contact lenses can correct astigmatism. Astigmatism is an irregular cornea shape that distorts and individual’s vision.
Affordability
Overall they are both very affordable when you consider the fact that they are worn every day. Glasses come out cheaper in the end when it comes to cost. Glasses will last for years while most contact lens wearers prefer the disposable which is the reason their cost is higher.
Lifestyle
You must consider your lifestyle when deciding between eye glasses and contact lenses. Do you have an active lifestyle which includes sports or activities that glasses would interfere with? Think about your daily life and imagine yourself with each. Then decide which one would be more suited for the things that you do on a daily basis.
Summary
As you see there are advantages and disadvantages to each. We believe, however, that the advantages of contact lenses far outweigh those of eye glasses. At the end of the day it is up to you, the wearer, as to which fits your lifestyle the best.
